New U2 Sound

In a recently interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Bono announced that he and his band U2 are working on a new sound for their next album and described it as “club-sounding”. I wonder if they can stand up to the music of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears at the clubs. It will definitely be something different. I just hope their different is the good kind. The singer didn’t elaborate past that, explaining that the band is also working on releasing a new rock album, while they gear up for their tour and he and The Edge finish up scoring the Spider Man musical.

U2 Bassist Sues Finance Managers

U2’s bassist Adam Clayton has filed a lawsuit against Gaby Smyth, as well as two other accountants, in Dublin’s High Court. This is said to possibly be related to his recent case against a former housekeeper who allegedly defrauded the rock star of up to £1.4 million. A source said “It would be unwise to assume that this case relates to the case against his housekeeper, but that’s not to say it has nothing to do with her.” If you have no idea who Gaby Smyth is, she’s the one who came up with the plan to move the band’s publishing company to Holland in 2007 to save money. It sounds shady to me.

Glastonbury Headliners

Glastonbury festival organizer Michael Eavis announced that Muse and Stevie Wonder will be joining U2 as headliners of the greatly anticipated UK summer concert. Muse is rumored to play on Saturday night but festival bosses have yet to officially confirm Stevie. The organizers said “It is very much a possibility but he’s still only on Michael Eavis’ wish list – so not 100% confirmed, it’s pending.” The music fest, which is set to take place on June 23-27 on Worthy Farm, is already sold out. Other acts confirmed to be performing include the bands Hot Chip, Vampire Weekend and Dizzee Rascal.

Bono admits he is overpaid for what he does

SPL120448_009It seems Rihanna’s problems do not revolve only around her incident with Chris Brown… what a surprise, huh? The singer has not talked with her father in over a year, even though she claims to have done her part in trying to reestablish the connection. This is what Rihanna said on the matter: “I’ve been the one trying to reconcile with him forever. I haven’t heard from my father in over a year. I try though, I reached out to him. I did my part. Now it’s on him.” Of course her father is saying exactly the opposite. Wow, it looks like Rihanna’s family is a really be tight unit, doesn’t it? Didn’t they all get along better when she was still in a relationship with Chris Brown?

U2 Concert to Stream Live on YouTube

U2 have confirmed via video blog that their sold-out concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California, Sunday 25th October 2009 will be streamed free, in full and live on YouTube. It’s the first time a show of this size will be streamed live.

The Rose Bowl show is the penultimate U2 show this year – with more to come in 2010 – and already is set to host the venue’s biggest ever audience of over 96, 000 fans. The 360˚ Tour, which has been critically acclaimed and “re-invents rock’n’roll”*, will now boast unique access for fans worldwide – as fans in territories yet to be visited by the tour, or not at all, will be able to enjoy the whole show online. Managed in partnership with Live Nation, this sell-out tour has broken attendance records in most venues it has visited – its success due in part to increased capacity coupled with a lower ticket price and great sight lines afforded by the stunning in-the-round stage set. Visit U2.com or youtube.com/u2official for details of how to join in this ground-breaking on-line event.

U2 manager Paul McGuinness said – “The band has wanted to do something like this for a long time. As we’re filming the LA show, it’s the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium. Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 – this time U2 can go to them, globally.”

YouTube will be streaming live across five continents. The show will be available in the usual You Tube way, as video-on-demand, following two full replays – after the live stream – on both U2.com and You Tube.

“YouTube is thrilled to be able to provide our global audience with a live streaming performance from one of the world’s greatest bands” – Chris Maxcy, Director of YouTube Partner Development. “We are always looking for new ways to connect fans around the world with their favourite artists, and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

The actual release date of the album was slated for March of 2009 but the album has been leaked onto the internet and it was caught by thousands of fans none of whom would have let go off the opportunity to have the album on their iPods and other music storage devices.

You begin to think why I wasted all that money in the past over some really crap music albums and here I have a real gem of an album from U2 for free. I however missed out but surely now that its out in the open people would be uploading the whole thing on some other sharing sites. The album is in public domain now!

U2 Gets Airplay

U2 released their latest single ‘Get on Your Boots’ last week. I found it really disappointing. I was expecting so much from them. However, it seems like Europe has taken a liking to it. The single has been doing measly numbers over in the US but it has got some major ones across the pond. According to Nielsen Music control, the first two days of airplay the song got shot it straight to number 1 on Ireland’s airplay chart and number 4 in the UK. The song has reached a total audience of 12.5 million in the UK as well as 11 million in Italy and 78 million in Germany. The song is also doing well in Austria, Belgium and Holland.
