Paula Patton says she used to keep her husband a secret from her friends – because he is white.

The actress, who played Gabourey Sidibe’s teacher in the movie Precious, is married to R’n'B singer Robin Thicke.

But Patton – who is half-white herself – says she was too scared to introduce her white boyfriend to her black school friends.

“When I was in high school I found myself totally enamoured [with] this guy,” the 34-year-old says.

“But I didn’t want all my high school friends to know that I’d fallen for a white boy.

“I didn’t want to be judged by that. So I hid him. I did.”

In fact Patton, now pregnant with the couple’s first baby, missed her high school prom because she didn’t want to invite him.

“That’s the sad part. I missed it because I was afraid,” she says.

Patton and Thicke have been together since she was 15 and he was 14 and they met at a teen dance.

Now Patton says she has no qualms about telling the world who her husband is – whatever his race.

“I didn’t choose him because of his colour. I chose him because of his heart and his soul and he makes me laugh. He’s one of the most special human beings I know,” she says.

And when asked about what attracted him to his wife, Thicke, 32, says: “It was that big smile. She just had the biggest, brightest smile I’d ever seen.”

Gym, tan, laundry: the costs are high. The Jersey Shore mantra might go quiet after the cast reportedly rejected MTV’s salary offer for the second season.

Sources said MTV offered Snooki, Pauly D, “The Situation” and the other cast members a $10,000 signing bonus and $5000 per episode.

When the cast rejected the first demand, MTV came back with an offer of $10,000 an episode. TMZ reports the cast, who are seeking the same amount for all, have yet to respond.

MTV has the cast bound by contract for another year, so talks may be just that. But the cast are aware of their golden aura – the season finale fetched 4.8 million viewers.

Meanwhile, a bit of a disturbance broke out in the New Jersey enclave of Montclair when thousands of fans lined the streets to try to meet the Guidos and Guidettes. The cast were appearing at the 501 Lounge.

David Sabagh, Montclair’s police chief, told the Star-Ledger: “They had crowds much larger than they could control. They had 600 upstairs, 200 to 300 downstairs and 400 outside. There were fights inside and fights outside.”

By 10.30pm Montclair police had closed off streets to contain the scene. Four people were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and drunken driving, Sabagh said.

A young singer/songwriter from Toronto named Taylor Mitchell was attacked and ultimately killed by a pack of coyotes. The girl was hiking alone on a trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park last week when she was confronted by two coyotes. Several other hikers in the area heard her screaming and immediately called for help. When help arrived, she was airlifted to a hospital but she was already in critical condition. Taylor died due to her injuries at the end of last week in the hospital. I would like to extend my condolences to her family and friends. It’s such an unfortunate accident.

Chynna Phillips, Mackenzie Phillips’ half sister, is speaking out about those details that her sibling discussed in an interview with Oprah and are also detailed in her book ‘High on Arrival’. The Wilson Phillips member reveals that in 1997, she received a phone call from Mackenzie while she was in between flights at LaGuardia Airport. Chynna said “She said, ‘I don’t know why, but I just really felt the need to call you and tell you something that I think you need to know. And she went on to tell me that she had had an incestuous relationship with our dad for about 10 years. Somebody could have dropped a piano on my head and I probably wouldn’t have felt it. But I knew it was true. I mean, who in their right mind would make such a claim if it wasn’t true?”

s on her new album. The ‘Rehab’ singer – who was recently hospitalized after she suffered convulsions at her London home – is currently working on her third album and has taken inspiration from her favourite meals while writing tracks.

A source said: “When Amy’s working she gets loads of Caribbean food delivered to the studio. It can get a bit messy sometimes. But that’s where Amy gets her soul from – good old-fashioned soul food.”

The 24-year-old singer has previously revealed she often makes meatballs for her friends after nights out, and one of her new songs includes the line: “I can cook, chicken soup, meatballs, a good chicken – jerk and fried.”

Amy has been trying to stick to a healthy diet in order to put on weight since she left hospital, which could be the reason behind the new lyrics.

The source said: “The lyrical content is a little off the wall. But Amy writes about what’s on her mind – and she goes all out. It’s only in its early stages, but Amy is really excited about getting back to what she does best – making great music.”

The troubled singer has been revisiting her past on other songs on the album.

The source added: “She’s working on one track which talks about her upbringing as a Jewish girl. The song brings her back to happier days when she didn’t have a care in the world.”

UNICEF Ambassador Clay Aiken recently visited the East African countries of Somalia and Kenya where UNICEF provides children with health care, education, nutrition, clean water and sanitation. The 29-year old singer wrote a series of blogs detailing his experience in the field. In one of his posts, he says “Getting children back to school is vital for their protection, and helps build a sense of normalcy in their lives. The re-establishment of schools in the most difficult circumstances is a testament to the commitment of UNICEF and to Kenyans. Many displaced parents told UNICEF that getting their children back to school was their top priority.” His work is really very inspiring and should hopefully affect more people into wanting to help.

British singing sensation Leona Lewis has just been named the Goodwill Ambassador for UK-Japan 2008 at the nomination ceremony in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday. UK-Japan 2008 has been conducted by the British embassy in Japan to mark the 150th anniversary of the Anglo-Japanese Treaty of Amity and Commerce. When commenting on her new position, the 23-year old beauty said “I’m really honored to become a Goodwill Ambassador for UK-Japan 2008. I recently visited Japan for the first time and I loved it. I’m very much looking forward to exploring such an amazing country further as well as supporting UK-Japan 2008. I’m very happy to have an opportunity to understand more about the wonderful country.”

Alanis Morissette is taking a road trip as she is set to embark on a big three month tour across the US nd Canada beginning in September. The tour will kick off on September 18 in Charlottesville, Virginia at the Charlottesville Pavilion and will wrap up on November 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada at The Joint. She’s got a lot of tour dates set playing mostly in theaters. October is the most packed month so there are plenty of dates to choose from for anyone who would like to see the Canadian singer perform both her new and old hits.

Lou Pearlman was sentenced to 25 years in prison and he’s still running out of whatever luck he has left. The former boy band mogul was handed down a judgement of $297 million in losses to the people he defrauded. In addition to that, prosecutors are also demanding that he pay $127 million in interest that has accrued since January 1989 to December 2006. However, his lawyer said he will object to having to pay the interest saying “The interest was fictional at best. If Mr. Pearlman made interest on the money, then certainly, I could understand how the victims would be entitled to that.” As of today, only around $5 million has been recovered in Lou’s other bankruptcy cases.

The US just won’t budge and has completely denied Boy George’s appeal for a work visa request to enter. As a result, the singer’s summer tour has been postponed until next year. In a statement, Boy George said “I was really hoping that the issue would be resolved and that some kind soul at the US Visa Office would realize that if the police in the UK placed no restrictions on my movements, that should have been good enough for them. I am very sorry that I will not see all my American fans this year, but I wish them a happy and healthy Fourth of July. I include the Visa Office in those good wishes and realize they are doing a very difficult job and I just got unlucky.”

Amy Winehouse could be kept in hospital ‘for weeks’ in a bid to get her off drugs. The troubled singer’s family are reportedly set to do ‘whatever it takes’ to get Amy clean and she may even be detained without her permission.

The 24-year-old star has been in hospital since Monday after collapsing at home and her worried relatives are hoping the medical drama will shock the singer into quitting drugs.

A source said: “She will be in there for a while if her family get their way. There is a feeling they can have a good attempt at sorting her out this time.”

Amy’s dad Mitch – who has been keeping a vigil at his daughter’s bedside – said yesterday: “Amy is doing fine. She is staying in as long as possible.”

Her spokesperson said: “She will stay for as long as they can find out what’s wrong with her. I don’t know what’s wrong with her and the doctors don’t seem to. There are various possibilities. It’s probably something to do with her ongoing treatment. She is staying there for the time being. They are still not quite sure what happened and the tests were inconclusive.”

The singer collapsed after a massive drugs overdose last summer and her health problems – including an irregular heartbeat – are believed to have stemmed from that.

Singer and Marc Jacobs model MIA was paid a good amount of money to perform at an MTV Movie Awards after-party that took place on Sunday. People got to talking when she revealed at the event how much she was paid to perform and what she plans to do with the money. During her performance, MIA announced “They’re giving me $100,000. Not bad, eh? I’m going to use it to build schools in Liberia. It costs $52,000 to build a school for 1,000.” MIA is doing something the Oprah and, reportedly, Madonna is doing. It gives me a warm feeling when I know that someone is doing some good with their millions.

Pete Doherty has bought three new cats. The latest additions to the rocker’s family of felines has brought his total to 10.

The Babyshambles frontman has also reportedly purchased several pregnant mice for his pets to feed on. It is thought Pete, 29, is letting the rodents roam around his London home for the cats to catch. Nice.

Earlier this week, Pete revealed he realised his drug use was spiralling out of control after he attacked one of his beloved pets while high. He said: “I got a shovel and was going to kill one of the cats. It was a bit of a crazy time.”

The musician was caught up in a cat controversy last year when it was alleged he had been feeding one of his animals crack cocaine. A friend revealed: “Pete thinks it’s hilarious to get it wasted. He even made a mini-crack pipe out of a bottle so it can get the maximum hit.’
