Apart from her closet hippie “personality”, it seems that Beth Ditto is also a great admirer of the old ’80 power ballads. This is what she said on the matter: “I think part of the appeal is that they are the ultimate no-no. It fits in with the fact that I still don’t feel normal. We were backstage with Kings of Leon recently and it was like two worlds colliding: the Rolling Stones meets Devo. They were being all cool and we were singing songs about patty cakes.” Yes, that kind of combination will do stuff to a person. It looks like Beth Ditto really has a soft spot for the old school music… a very, very, soft spot. It almost hangs on the verge of collapse.

Gossip star Beth Ditto said fat people should stay away from drugs as it is more harmful to their health.

Ditto, 28, said she never gets nasty comments about her larger figure and admitted she steers clear of drugs.

She said: “Nobody ever talks about fat in front of me at fashion stuff. It’s the same way I never see people do drugs when I’m on tour. People know for the most part that I don’t do it, so they keep it away from me.

“I did ecstasy once – and it ruled – but fat people shouldn’t do drugs. Fat people should certainly not do cocaine. It’s not that they’re all unhealthy, but it can be hard on your body, on your heart, so you have to accept you can’t do certain things. I don’t want to die when I’m 38. It’s not worth it.”

Ditto is currently helping to design her own range of clothes for British plus-size women’s clothing chain Evans.

Beth Ditto is featured on the cover of the new issue of Attitude magazine and in her accompanying interview, the singer has a few not so nice comments for Katy Perry. The Gossip singer called Katy’s ‘I Kissed a Girl’ a “boner dyke” anthem for “straight girls who like to turn guys on by making out or like faking gay.” Beth continues “I hate Katy Perry! She’s offensive to gay culture, I’m so offended. She’s just riding on the backs of our culture, without having to pay any of the dues and not being actually lesbian or anything at all. She’s on the cover of a fucking gay magazine.”

The singer from The Gossip recently admitted that she took fashion advice from Kate Moss when it came to designing her own range of clothes. Beth Ditto said: “Kate gave me loads of advice. There were lots of things I didn’t know about, all the industry stuff like order times and things like that. But she told me just to get involved with everything and really push my ideas.” There’s nobody like a model to take fashion advice from, eh? Still, Beth Ditto would’ve struck me like the kind of person to be taking advice from some grunge rockers rather than Kate Moss, but hey, whatever rows her boat.

Gay and proud singer Beth Ditto from the group Gossip Girl is on the cover of the new issue of Out magazine. It’s her first cover on a major US publication but she isn’t expecting the story and the shoot to rattle the citizens of her home town. She said “I’m almost positive they don’t even carry gay magazines there. This Christian college still runs everything, and when I lived [in Judsonia, Ark.] you used to have to ask for gay magazines.” In her interview, she also talks about growing up and coming out in Judsonia as one of seven siblings. Beth also traces her punk rock sensibility to her high school experiences.
