U2 released their latest single ‘Get on Your Boots’ last week. I found it really disappointing. I was expecting so much from them. However, it seems like Europe has taken a liking to it. The single has been doing measly numbers over in the US but it has got some major ones across the pond. According to Nielsen Music control, the first two days of airplay the song got shot it straight to number 1 on Ireland’s airplay chart and number 4 in the UK. The song has reached a total audience of 12.5 million in the UK as well as 11 million in Italy and 78 million in Germany. The song is also doing well in Austria, Belgium and Holland.
‘I Kissed a Girl’ controversial singer Katy Perry had a recent interview with TV Guide where she made an interesting comment about her sexual activities. The 24-year old singer was asked who she would want to kiss at the Grammys when she replied with “I’ve actually taken a vow of celibacy this year…no kissing anyone. Just my cat, Kitty Purry.” The cat has a nice name but I doubt that the whole celibacy thing is real. The first time Grammy nominee also shared that her parents are still shocked from the nod saying “They can’t believe they created something that is Grammy-nominated.”
Jonas Brothers are set to release the Soundtrack to their new movie, “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” on February 24th, three days before the film is slated to hit 3D theaters across the nation. The soundtrack includes old favorites like “Hold On” and “S.O.S” as well as live performances with Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato, a Shania Twain cover, and one new, never-before-heard studio recording called “Love Is On Its Way.” The highly anticipated film goes behind-the-scenes with Kevin, Joe and Nick on last year’s Burning Up Tour, following their every move along the way. 2008 was a record breaking year for Jonas Brothers where they took home six Teen Choice Awards, starred in Camp Rock, went platinum with their #1 debuting “A Little Bit Longer,” released “Burnin’ Up,” and became the youngest group to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. The New Year has already proven to be a continuation of their hot streak with a performance at the Kids’ Inaugural Concert in D.C. and an upcoming performance on the Grammys where they are nominated for Best New Artist.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have just world-premiered their upcoming album, Lonely Road on their MySpace profile. The Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, All-American Rejects) produced album is the follow-up to their platinum selling Don’t You Fake It album which came out in 2006.
The band is also giving away a free download of their new song “Pen and Paper” on their fan site The Alliance.

Chris Cornell’s long-awaited Timbaland produced album, Scream, is reaching stores on 3/10. Chris has been keeping busy rehearsing with his new band and talking with his fans on his blog to gear up for the release. The front man hasn’t picked up an electric guitar since the break-up of his legendary group Soundgarden back in the late 90’s, but according to his latest blog entry on ChrisCornell.com, he’s thinking of busting them out for his upcoming tour:
“Hi people. Here is an open question. Since I got my guitars back I have been considering playing guitar live again. Who thinks I should pick it up again? I play guitar all day every day as I am always working on new songs. Let me know if you think I should hit it live. The king is dead. God save the king.”
Chris Cornell will be performing on Jimmy Kimmel live tonight, Friday, January 23rd – and free tickets are up for grabs. This one is a clear example that not all change is for the better. The rapper or former rapper and future fashion designer, Kanye West, has changed his name to “Martin ‘Louis’ the King Jr.” In a video statement on his blog, Kanye West said: “Due to what has happened – what has happened so severely when the red shoes hit the runway, I was forced to change my name to Martin Louis the King Jr. Address me as such.” The change is apparently due to the launch of his new footwear range for Louis Vuitton. I really like the end part with “address me as such”. Sounds really dictatorial, maybe Kanye West will eventually buy himself a little island somewhere, colonize it with a few people from the xenomorph queen and then become their ruler and god and disappear from the public scene forever.
Universal Records, the record label of singer Amy Winehouse has went one of their top commercial bosses to speak to the beleaguered singer and ask her to straighten out her hedonistic ways.
Brian Rose, commercial director at Universal Records jetted this week to the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia for a face to face meeting to discuss future projects. According to Universal Amy is amongst their biggest talents and they would like to know why there are no serious plans coming for new music.
Blake has filed for divorce and Amy should quickly complete the formalities. That’s the one way she can leave behind her drug addiction and may be find someone who is not into substance abuse.
She is spending wildly it has been reported and well that’s her money and its people like her that economies need to get the beer business going in these financially troubled times and yes when she passes out the medics too will earn from treating her. Good business overall.
The singer of the famous song “Thriller” apparently doesn’t want to have any more surges of bad memories from his old ranch and theme park. His sister said: “Michael still owns Neverland. He hasn’t been there in about six years – not since the trial. He says he never wants to see it again. He doesn’t want to be there. The memories are so awful.” And here I thought Neverland was supposed to be a place of eternal happiness and joy. But I guess that doesn’t apply for Michael Jackson too when the children don’t want to take the candy. Oh well, Neverland should’ve probably just remained a great place in our imaginations, not some ranch and theme park in California… after all, California might very well be the place where all dreams turn to monsters.
They have recently reunited and have confirmed their return to the stage beginning in May this year with a tour that will span over the USA and then Europe. Gwen Stefani had this to say about No Doubt’s reunion: “The whole reason for going on this tour was to have fun, try out our favorite songs again and to get inspired to make new music. It feels good to be together again.” Yes! Let the music spawn once more and the cash flow yet again. After five long years it lives yet again! Also, Gwen Stefani had said something interesting about being a mother and doing the tour a while back and I think it would be a good idea to recap: “I don’t think we should wait. Pack up the babies and get a bunch of nannies. So fun! Would be so inspiring to get out there and play all those songs again.” Poor kids, they have a teenage pop star for a mom.
After ‘Glitter’, whoever thought that Mariah Carey was ever going to get offered another acting gig? Extra has unveiled a couple of stills from the diva’s new movie ‘Push’. I wonder how big of a fit she put out when she found out that she was going to be ugly in the film. I doubt her performance will be anything Oscar worthy. I bet Lauren Conrad is likely to win an Oscar before Mariah. Maybe she can win a Razzie for worst actress ever instead. Why did anyone even bother in hiring her? Maybe it’s a comedy. That’s the only way you’re going to get me to watch this.
New American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi gave gave the show more flavor and spice when she clashed with a bikini-clad contestant over the latter’s interpretation of Mariah Carrey’s song “Vision of Love”. DioGuardi told 20-year old Idol contestant Katrina Darrell that her version of the song lacked swing and proceeded to demonstrate how to sing it properly. The conflict became more heated after Paula Abdul heard Darrell say that DioGuardi’s demonstration was no better either.
Darrell wore a skimpy bikini to the audition primarily to catch attention and she did more than that. The two male judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell gave Darrell a “yes” vote but the two girls were still at it and had Darrell sing the song again with the required swing. Ryan Seacrest said bikini girl had a better body than a better face. Darrell was however given the go signal to go through after a few minutes. DioGuardi said wearing her bikini was probably a good call for Darrell since she indeed got everyone’s attention. She said it is important to have contestants who are pretty and cute because it is after a visual medium. Aside from being a pretty girl, she added, the contestants should also have an incredible voice and great stage presence.
